THE SOUTH GIPPSLAND SPECIALIST SCHOOL CONDUCTED AN ANZAC DAY CEREMONY AT THE KOONWARRA SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITIES CENTRE
The South Gippsland Specialist School is a wonderful contributor to the Koonwarra community through its connection with the Koonwarra Sustainable Communities Centre.
The School uses the Centre as an outside Campus to its Leongatha base and has permanent use of one of the classrooms and the Resource Shed where it undertakes activities such as woodwork. Over the last ten years the School has planted many trees, gardens, a maze and constructed an adventure bicycle track and a frog pond. The students are also active in the Community Kitchen Garden.
Each year the students are host the regional Bike Ed Challenge at which a number of schools take part.
The Koonwarra Sustainable Communities Centre is proud to be associated with the Specialist School and watches the achievements of the students such as Hayden Tipping. Hayden organized this year's ANZAC Ceremony under the flag pole at the Centre and submitted this article for our website.
RSL President, Rod Cameron
"This year was the second ceremony we have had out there and it is going to be yearly event which will be organized by the senior students.
As a senior student of the school I was given the task to organize this year's event, so I had to ring the President of the RSL to see if he could come out to the ceremony at Koonwarra.
When the RSL rang back they told us that he would love to come out and talk to us and they said that he had organized a bugler to play the Last Post for us.
We had some of the senior and middle year's students from school out there to see the laying of the two wreaths and the raising of the flag. The RSL brought one wreath and we brought the other. We had a minute's silence and I said a quote about time -
"Time is too slow for those who wait, too swift for those who fear, too long for those who grieve, too short for those who rejoice, but for those who live, time is eternity."
The day went well and everyone enjoyed themselves. We this is my final year at school I won't be organizing it next year."
