Annual Native Plant Show
17 Nov 06
The annual Native Plant Show in 2006 was held at the Koonwarra Sustainable Communities Centre Inc, at "The Old School" in Koala Drive. Over 500 adults plus many children visited the Show in this lovely setting.
The Resource Shed was used to house the display of native plants that all grow well in our area and many beautiful native floral arrangements . Many of these plants and others were then available for purchase. Members of the South Gippsland Group were on hand to advise on varieties appropriate for particular locations.

Another attraction was a hands-on, informative talk by Snakebusters when many brave and aspiring "Steve Irwins" were able to walk around with snakes draped around their necks.

Books and gifts for all ages were available for purchase from the South Gippsland Conservation Society and this display attracted many also.
Many enjoyed a cup of tea/coffee and cake and a chat with friends and strangers and the Meeniyan Scout Group conducted a sausage sizzle that was also appreciated.
This annual two day floral display and sale of local native plant growers stock is a must if you want to establish an Australian plant garden. Members of the South Gippsland Australian Plants Society work together to set up this display arranging and naming the wonderful array of native plants gathered from members gardens and from the gardens of several native nurseries. The Society aims to encourage the growing and use of Australian native plants in home gardens and public areas, pass on their knowledge of Australian plants as widely as possible and protect native plants and habitats. Their friendly monthly meetings are held at McMillan College, Nerrena Road, Leongatha at 8:00 pm most second Wednesdays to suit guest speakers. They also hold garden or bush walks. New members are welcome.
