Jamie Oliver's Fifteen Foundation comes to Koonwarra

7 Aug 07

Koonwarra is well known throughout Australia through many articles in tourist magazines, newspapers such as The Age and The Australian, magazines such as Home Beautiful, TV through its appearances on Postcards, on radio through many interviews and on various websites.  It is therefore well known for its fine food and wine, farmers markets, organic food and organic cookery, arts and crafts, businesses devoted to health and well being, its Revamp stores and its dedication to environmental issues and sustainable living.

This time our Peaceful Gardens Organic Cooking School was to star with the 25 young apprentices from Jamie Oliver's Fifteen Foundation spending and day here exploring the world of organic food.

These young people who come from troubled backgrounds, have been given the chance of a lifetime to learn cooking skills that can transform their lives.  They came to Koonwarra to learn the difference between organic and non-organic food and where better to learn that than at the Peaceful Gardens Organic Farm at Nerrena and the Peaceful Gardens Cooking School in the heart of Koonwarra.

Half of the young people had never been to a farm before or been further from Melbourne than Phillip Island and they marveled at the beauty of this area.

They were shown new kitchen skills by the enthusiastic, highly qualified staff of the Cooking School and the prospect of having the Fifteen Foundation use the Koonwarra facilities on a regular basis is exciting for the Organic Cooking School - and for Koonwarra.
