5,500 gal tank installed

The tank is ready for use

It was an exciting day for the Koonwarra Sustainable Communities Centre on 23 March 2007 when the pump was installed connecting the new 5,500 gal tank to the main "Old School" building.  The pipes were connected the week before so there was already a little water in the tank and with rain forecast more water was eagerly anticipated.  The Centre is now operating off the tank with South Gippsland Water being a back up when necessary.

The Koonwarra Community Kitchen Garden can also now be watered providing more incentive for local residents to take up a plot.

The pump is turned on

Both local papers were present on the 23rd, together with Centre Manager, Thomas Burge, and representatives of two of the three sponsors - South Gippsland Water (Ros Griggs) and Mitre 10/Junior Landcare Grants Program (Sue and Chris Kelly).  The other sponsor was Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal (FRRR).  The Plumber is Phil Zukovskis of Meeniyan Plumbing & Mainteance Service.

Tank sponsor board

The Centre is most grateful to the sponsors, Phil Zukovskis, and local resident, Robert Hall, who removed the old tank stand that had stood on the spot for many years and made the sponsor's signboard by recyclying the wood from the old stand and also meticulously prepared the sand base for the new tank.
